About Alicia

Alicia Hidalgo Lopez joined ZHA in 2017 and has since contributed to major international projects across Russia, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Her notable projects include OPPO in Shenzhen and the Cityzen Mixed-Use Development in Tbilisi.

Profile

With experience across multiple scales and typologies, Alicia leads projects from competition through to design development. She has worked extensively on cultural buildings, mixed-use developments, headquarters, retail spaces, high-rise towers, masterplanning, and adaptive reuse. Recently, she led the winning competition for the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade.

 

Before joining ZHA, Alicia gained diverse experience in architecture and urban design in Venezuela and the UK. She worked in the urbanism department at NMD Nomadas in Venezuela before pursuing her master’s degree. In London, she contributed to the Google Mountain View campus and headquarters at Heatherwick Studio and worked for four years at Martha Schwartz Partners.

Education & Professional Philosophy

Alicia completed her Diploma in Architecture from the University of Zulia in Venezuela and her Master of Architecture in Landscape Urbanism from the Architectural Association (AA) in London. She has also contributed to academia as a guest lecturer at Politecnico di Milano in Italy, Greenwich University in London, and Universidad Iberoamericana de Puebla in Mexico, as well as a guest critic at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL).

 

Born and raised in Venezuela, Alicia’s architectural perspective has been shaped by her experiences across Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Her background informs the interplay between nature, urbanism, and innovation in her work on large-scale projects.
