About Juan

Juan Ignacio Aranguren joined ZHA in 2003 and has since played a key role in leading projects across Spain, Latin America & Middle East. His contributions include award-winning competition entries and significant projects such as the L’Avenue Libertador Apartments in Argentina and the Grove Residences in Qatar.

Profile

With over 25 years of architectural experience, Juan currently oversees The Grove Residences in Qatar, along with several projects across the globe. In 2016, he established and led ZHA’s former Mexico City office, where his local market expertise and cultural insight proved invaluable in unlocking the region’s potential. He has made significant contributions to the practice’s luxury hospitality portfolio and brings extensive experience across a range of project typologies and scales.


Juan’s expertise spans the full spectrum of the design process—from conceptual design through to project delivery and construction—underpinned by a strong understanding of local contexts and client needs.


Before joining ZHA, Juan collaborated with award-winning practices in Caracas and London, including Jesús Tenreiro Degwitz. He later spent three years at the London office of U.S.-based firm TPG, where he delivered high-end investment banking environments across Europe and Asia within a global corporate framework.

Education & Professional Philosophy

Juan received his Diploma in Architecture from the Central University of Venezuela and completed his Master of Architecture and Urbanism at the Design Research Laboratory (DRL) of the Architectural Association (AA) in London.


His approach to architecture is driven by a deep interest in innovation and sustainability, with a strong emphasis on form, space, and materiality. This perspective is reflected in his commitment to pushing design boundaries while responding thoughtfully to local contexts.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, skiing, mountain biking, and is a devoted rugby follower as well as an avid foodie, passionate about global culinary cultures.
