Xiaoyu Zhang

Xiaoyu has contributed to projects across all stages, from competition and concept development to façade rationalisation and on-site construction supervision. She has a versatile skillset that includes algorithmic, landscape, and façade design, which she integrates into her workflow and experiments with new prototypes.
Prior to ZHA, Xiaoyu worked at MAD Architects and Plasma Studio in Beijing on architecture, planning, and landscape projects. She developed expertise in coding, parametric design, and algorithm-driven frameworks, solving design challenges and generating systems that respond to environmental and functional needs.

Xiaoyu received her Bachelor of Architecture from the Beijing Jiaotong University and her Master of Architecture and Urbanism from the Design Research Laboratory (DRL) at the Architectural Association (AA) in London, where she studied under Patrik Schumacher. She has taught workshops at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and AA Visiting School in Beijing.
Xiaoyu’s education in music, Chinese drawing, calligraphy, and dance has shaped her sensitivity to art and aesthetics, which continues to influence her work today. Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, yoga, and climbing.

Tall Buildings
The design of Tower C integrates the city and nature within its central green axis with the transit orientated development (TOD) of Shenzhen’s new spine, creating a ‘superscape’ that will become a tower of the future within the Super Headquarters Base.

The new Taikang Financial Centre will be a centre of excellence, developing effective systems and networks that will provide a new ecosystem of support for people of all ages across China. Using the new technologies developed within the Taikang Financial Centre, the group will continue its commitment to supporting community development, healthcare, education and well-being throughout the country.

Conceived as four interconnected towers reaching a height of 200m (42 floors), the 185,000 sq.m design incorporates two towers of flexible, open-plan spaces linked by a 20-storey vertical lobby, and two external service towers providing vertical circulation.

Mixed Use
Infinitus Plaza is the new global headquarters of Infinitus China. Incorporating work environments designed to nurture connectivity, creativity and entrepreneurship, the new headquarters also includes the group’s herbal medicine research facilities and safety assessment labs as well as a learning centre for conferences and exhibitions.

Culture
Designed to host local and international productions of opera, dance and drama together with large-scale symphonies and musical theatre, the Art and Culture Centre includes a 1,400-seat Grand Theatre, 500-seat Black-Box Multifunctional Hall, 2,900 sq. m Arts and Education Centre, 3,000m² Conference Centre, 7,500m² Heritage Museum and a 10,000m² Digital Art Gallery.
