ZHA were early adopters of data analytics and artificial intelligence. We formed a dedicated research team, ZHA Analytics & Insights (ZHA A+I), to design environments that respond to the diverse needs of individuals and organisations.
By combining data science, design analytics, and behavioural research, we help shape workplaces and mixed-use buildings that truly reflect how people live, work, and connect. Our algorithms and analytical tools assess daylight, views, acoustics, air quality, and other environmental conditions, providing insight that enhances well-being, comfort, and performance.
As the boundaries between work, life, learning, and leisure continue to blur, the data and intelligence gathered from our research inform more human-centred, evidence-based design across all building types.

Projects
The Henderson and Infinitus Plaza incorporate smart management systems that extend our data-driven design approach into building operation. These systems monitor and adapt to changing conditions - adjusting air temperature, humidity, and ventilation based on real-time occupancy. By learning from daily patterns of use, they optimise comfort and energy performance, reflecting our commitment to creating spaces that are both responsive and sustainable.
Expanding upon this pioneering work, ZHA A+I is now integrating artificial intelligence tools into the design development of self-learning and self-evolving buildings that can autonomously adapt and adjust. This “smart building” technology has the potential for continuous optimisation of user comfort, energy efficiency, and operational effectiveness. By fully connecting intelligence across environmental, occupancy, and building systems, our aim is to design architecture that doesn’t just respond to people, but learns from them, evolving towards greater sustainability and well-being.

Research
Led by a culture of research, ZHA is always ahead of the curve because we never stop learning: experimenting, testing, refining, seeking. Anticipating challenges and developing solutions. Envisioning new possibilities, and finding ways to build them.
