Effie Nakajima first joined ZHA in 2007, bringing extensive experience on large-scale cultural, mixed-use, commercial, and masterplanning projects in Australia, East Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Profile

Effie currently leads projects and bids across regions, including Europe, Australia, Asia and the Middle East. Alongside her design work, she champions ZHA’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

 

Before relocating to London in 2006, she gained foundational experience in Melbourne, Australia. In 2016, she started to explore mixed-use and socially impactful developments across various scales in the UK, working with Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, as Design Partner at Farrells, and later as London Studio Director at Chetwoods, before rejoining ZHA in 2020.

Education & Philosophy

Effie earned her Bachelor of Architecture from RMIT University in Melbourne. She served as a design critic at London South Bank University’s School of the Built Environment and Architecture. Currently serving as a jury member on an architectural competition for professional and students, she has been invited to share her expertise in panel discussions at international conferences and events.


Born in Malaysia and raised in Australia as a third-generation Chinese Malaysian, Effie comes from a culturally diverse family that speaks more than five languages. Beyond work, she enjoys visual arts and reads more than 50 books each year.
