About Houzhe

Houzhe Xu joined ZHA in 2015 and has led competitions and commissions across China and beyond. His portfolio spans cultural, education, mixed-use, office, headquarters, interiors, and masterplanning projects and has contributed to key ZHA projects including Mercury Tower in Malta and Nikola Tesla Museum in Serbia.

Profile

With extensive experience as a designer, Houzhe has gained expertise in all aspects of project delivery, from initial design concepts to technical implementation, including engineering, structure, planning, and façade development. Houzhe has overseen projects at every stage, from concept development to façade rationalisation and on-site construction supervision. He is currently working on the Yidan Centre in Shenzhen, China.

 

Prior to rejoining ZHA, Houzhe worked at Büro Ole Scheeren, where he led urban design and headquarter projects in China.

Education & Professional Philosophy

Houzhe completed his Bachelor of Architecture from Tongji University in Shanghai and his Master of Architecture and Urbanism from the Design Research Laboratory (DRL) at the Architectural Association (AA) in London.

 

Outside work, Houzhe enjoys kayaking and badminton, which he started playing as part of Tongji University’s team.
