Johannes has contributed to key ZHA projects, including the winning entry for the CECEP Shanghai Campus in China, the Alba Residences and Hotel in Dubai, the start-up building of the Unicorn Island Masterplan in Chengdu, and the Port of Tallinn Masterplan. In addition to designing and planning, Johannes focuses on rationalising designs to maintain their integrity while coordinating with different stakeholders. Currently, he is leading a hospitality project in Saudi Arabia.
Prior to rejoining ZHA in 2014, Johannes gained experience with award-winning practices in Vienna, working on competitions and projects such as concert halls, performance art centres, banks, and train stations.

Johannes received his Bachelor’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna and obtained his Architecture Diploma (Masters) at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna as a student of the late Zaha Hadid.
Born in Austria to an Egyptian family, Johannes' background cultivated his interest in history, architecture, and classical music. His architectural influences include the geometric intricacy of Islamic art and the order and refinement of the European Renaissance.

Residential
The Alba is a new US$1.9 billion mixed-use beachfront development designed by ZHA for Omniyat on the Eastern Crescent of Palm Jumeirah with panoramic views of Dubai’s coast and skyline.

Masterplans
The masterplan re-establishes and reinforces the links with the Port of Tallinn and the Old Town, as well as the links between the city and the sea; providing connectivity from the ferry and cruise terminals to the city centre, and at the same time creating an integrated new neighbourhood for the people of Tallinn.

Offices
The 218,000m² campus sets new benchmarks for the city in energy conservation, energy efficiency and sustainability.

Masterplans
A mixed-use masterplan for 70,000 researchers, office staff, residents and visitors, Unicorn Island has been designed to enhance the well-being of its community; its design influenced by principles within the region’s historical natural engineering projects.

The international competition to design Malpensa Hospital (Grande Ospedale della Malpensa) has been awarded to ZHA in partnership with RINA (team leader), Studio Plicchi, WSP, STI Engineering and BC Building Consulting.
