With photographs from Christian Richters and presented in both English and German, the book provides insight into the ideas, conversations, and studies that shaped one of architect Zaha Hadid’s early explorations into architectural landscape.
Located in Weil am Rhein, Germany, Land Formation One / Landesgartenschau was designed by Hadid as an event and exhibition space for the 1999 garden festival. Constructed entirely out of glass and concrete, the building emerges from the fluid geometry of the surrounding network of paths, echoing the landscape’s dynamic movement.
This in-depth volume traces the project’s development from its earliest conceptual stages to its final realisation. Juxtaposing photographs, technical drawings, and models from similar angles, this volume offers a layered narrative of the design process. Rich visual materials include initial colour sketches, site and landscape studies, technical drawings, and photographs of construction.
