Lei has played a pivotal role in key ZHA projects in China, including the Sanya Cultural District, Xi’an International Football Centre, the Greater Bay Area Sports Centre and the Hangzhou Sports Centre. She began her journey at ZHA in the Computation and Design Group (ZHA CODE), where she integrated advanced research with practical architectural applications.
Lei currently focuses on the design and delivery of large-scale sports facilities and concert venues, particularly in China, overseeing projects from concept through to construction.

Jiangxi River Bridge
Lei completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas in the US and a Master of Science in Emergent Technologies and Design (EmTech) from the Architectural Association (AA) in London. She has lectured on technical studies at the AA and on computational design at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL). Additionally, she has taught workshops and seminars at institutions such as Harvard GSD, Umeå University in Sweden, CAFA, and the AA Visiting School in Shanghai.

Sports
Located within Hangzhou’s Future Science and Technology Cultural District, the sports centre establishes a new riverfront park and public plazas with direct access to Lines 3 and 5 of the city’s expanding metro network.

Culture
Located at the entrance to Sanya’s harbour, the new cultural district by ZHA is adjacent to the Jiangang Road terminus of Sanya’s tram network that connects many of the residential and hotel districts on Sanya Bay with the city’s high-speed rail station.

Jiangxi River Bridge
Transport + Infrastructure
The first in a series of bridges on Chengdu’s West Line Road, the new 295-metre Chengdu West First Bridge crosses the Jiangxi River, a tributary of the Tuojiang River in China’s Sichuan province.

Grand Theatre, Small Theatre, Art Museum
Culture
The new Culture & Arts Centre by ZHA incorporates a contemporary art museum (MICA), an 1,800-seat theatre with supporting facilities and a multipurpose hall. Its organic architectural language is defined by pedestrian routes that weave through the site to connect with neighbouring streets.

Masterplans
The future Huanggang Port Area masterplan in Shenzhen, China will be an important node of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Science and Technology Corridor, creating a hub of scientific research and collaboration in industries such as microelectronics, material development, artificial intelligence, robotics, and medical sciences.

Sports
Xi’an International Football Centre’s 60,000-seat stadium and training grounds are integral to the ongoing development of football in China. Initiated by the Chinese Football Association and China’s national sports development organisations, the new football centre provides facilities of the highest standards to nurture the sport across all levels.
