Inspiring future generations

Our buildings enhance the cultural fabric of a city, providing gathering points for people to experience the joy of artistic expression. ZHA’s designs showcase art, and are themselves places of inspiration that fuel the next generation of artists, architects, and performers.

Changsha Meixihu Culture & Arts Centre

The new Culture & Arts Centre by ZHA incorporates a contemporary art museum (MICA), an 1,800-seat theatre with supporting facilities and a multipurpose hall. Its organic architectural language is defined by pedestrian routes that weave through the site to connect with neighbouring streets.

Zaragoza Bridge Pavilion

An enclosed interactive space spanning the River Ebro to form a gateway to the Zaragoza Expo 2008, a hybrid of pedestrian footbridge and exhibition pavilion. Four structural elements correspond to specific spatial enclosures, which intersect and brace each other. This fluid, dynamic design interprets the Expo’s theme: ‘Water and Sustainable Development.’

Singapore’s New Science Centre will provide unique facilities and programmes as a destination for all Singaporeans to access science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and experiences.

Théâtre Royal de Rabat

A fluid sculptural form inspired by the Bouregreg River between the ancient cities of Rabat and Salé. Incorporating an 1800-seat theatre, a 7,000 person amphitheatre and an experimental  performance space.

Phaeno Science Centre

Described variously as ‘an architectural adventure playground’ and ‘the magic box’, Phaeno realises our continuing vision of creating ‘complex, dynamic and fluid spaces’ – from the gently undulating artificial hills and valleys created below the main elevated structure, to the crater-like museum floor, naturally lit spaces and accessible funnels within.

Serpentine North Gallery

The Serpentine North Gallery consists of two distinct parts, namely the conversion of a classical 19th century brick structure – The Magazine – and a 21st century tensile structure. The Serpentine North Gallery is thus – after MAXXI in Rome – the second art space where ZHA has created a synthesis of old and new.

Heydar Aliyev Centre

ZHA was appointed as design architects of the Heydar Aliyev Center in 2007. The Center, designed to become the primary building for the nation’s cultural programs, breaks from the rigid and often monumental Soviet architecture that is so prevalent in Baku, aspiring instead to express the sensibilities of Azeri culture and the optimism of a nation that looks to the future.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza

The DDP has been designed as a cultural hub at the centre of one of the busiest and most historic districts of the city. It is a place for people of all ages; a catalyst for the instigation and exchange of ideas and a place for new technologies and media to be explored - presenting an ever-changing menu of exhibitions and events that feeds the cultural vitality of the city.

Eli & Edythe Broad Art Museum

Echoing and extending the many circulatory and visual connections that define its surrounding topography, the museum forms itself by extending and folding these connections through a series of pleats, producing a structure that changes as visitors move past and through it – creating great curiosity yet never fully revealing its content.

Glasgow Riverside Museum of Transport

The museum, a sectional extrusion open at both ends, its outline encapsulating a wave or pleat, flows from city to waterfront, symbolising dynamic relationship between Glasgow and the ship-building, seafaring and industrial legacy of the river Clyde. Clear glass facades allow light to flood through the main exhibition space.
